Golf & Membership

The Goonawarra Golf Club has a proud history of golf.  We have a championship quality 18 hole golf course that is a joy to play but can also be responsible for many an expletive, not to mention a lost ball.

A round of golf at Goonawarra is not expensive, in fact it is amongst the cheapest green fee rates in the area.  To get an idea of the demanding course that awaits, check out the course tour.

Before your game, make sure you pay a visit to the Proshop for excellent professional advice and friendly service. The Goonawarra Golf Club is a non-profit community based organisation.   It was founded in 1981 as an integral part of the Goonawarra Country Club Estate developed by the state Government through the instrumentality of the then Urban Land Authority (ULA).

The course was opened in 1981 and soon became a member of the Victorian Golf Association (VGA) and Victorian Ladies Golf Association (now known as Women’s Golf Victoria).  Pennant teams were formed, annual tournaments conducted and events such as the Australia Open Golf Championship pre-qualifying rounds were hosted.

The Club has a Lease under an Act of Parliament (Goonawarra Land Act 1988) to the year 2058 and a Management Agreement to manage the course on behalf of the Hume City Councel for 5 years effective 2001.

Since taking over management of the course, the club has instigated many alterations and improvements to the course – primarily, returning the course to as close to the original Tony Cashmore design.

In 2003 the club committee (12) was replaced by a “Board of Management” of 8 members with an annual general meeting being conducted in November each year.   Membership at Goonawarra is amongst the most affordable of all VGA clubs.

Vacancies exist in all categories with the clubs total membership reaching a record 600 members during the 2013 season.
